Rather than send paper Christmas cards in the mail, this year we opted for the more environmentally friendly option of sending our greetings electronically where possible. In addition to saving some trees and reducing landfill waste, we also decided to make a donation to local charity in lieu of sending paper Christmas cards.
We donated a lovely Christmas care basket to the East Elgin Housing Intiative and Shelter (Photo: Stephanie Farrow presenting the donation basket to Sue Dekraker of the East Elgin Housing Initiative and Shelter)
As we approach this winter and this season of giving, we know how fortunate many of us are, and sadly, it is not the same for all families or individuals.
We have filled this huge basket with many items the Emergency Shelter is currently in great need of including; soup, coffee, hot chocolate, tea, granola bars, oatmeal, toothbrushes, toothpaste, lip balm, warm socks, hats gloves and Tim Hortons gift cards.
We have also made a donation to Courage for Freedom Christmas fundraiser for beds and clothes for at-risk girls.
It is our hope these donations will make a difference to someone who is struggling this winter in a way most of us will never understand.
Wishing you a happy holiday season with your loved ones.
